ANOTHER DAY WITH DOM!

It’s going to be a busy weekend for the news press staff with Cotton & Crude, but we hope to see familiar and new faces attending and enjoying the events Saturday.

comfortable with change. As a homegrown child from Levelland, I spent nearly every Early Settlers Day at the square having fun and watching the parade that went through downtown every year. Back then, I remember the amount of people that wanted to be a part of the festivities or just spend the morning watching it unfold. However, as I have gotten older and had the chance to attend early settlers, I’ve noticed the lack of buzz. I’ll be honest, after high school and before I had my son, early settlers didn’t interest me or any of my friends I stayed in touch with that I graduated with. It quit being a family activity we looked forward to every summer. I don’t think anything was wrong with the event, but I do think it needed new breath put into the event. Nothing remains the same these days and I honestly think make the changes the Levelland Chamber of Commerce did is a step in the right direction. I’ve heard the complaints and gripes, but it’s not necessary. A board consisting over 20 individuals took a long look at the performance of how well Early Settlers was doing as an event and they found there was room for growth and improvement.

It’s hard to fault a group for trying to bring a rejuvenated event to the community so everyone from toddlers to the older generations who set the foundation for this city to enjoy.

The goal remains the same, celebrate the early settlers who remain in this great town of Levelland and celebrate the ones who are no longer with us. Incorporating the younger generations and helping them understand what these folks that set their roots in this town decades ago is another way for thanking these early settlers for everything they’ve done. I encourage anyone and everyone to travel to downtown Saturday and enjoy a relaxing morning, afternoon, and evening.

I think we all have the common goal of making Levelland and our surrounding communities a wonderful experience to be a part of, but the general idea isn’t always the same. That’s an understandable thought or belief, but at the core, we are all wanting the same thing. I think this event will put us closer to coming together and enjoying what the City of Levelland has become and it gives us a chance to shake hands and break bread with loved ones, family, and good friends.

I’m excited to have the chance to shake some unfamiliar hands and get to know more amazing people within the Levelland community and surrounding towns we have had the pleasure to cover.

The majority of staff will be scattered throughout different areas of all the events covering and getting photos of the fun going on.

Feel free to stop any one of us, have a chat or just say hello. Even if we look a little sweaty moving around quickly, we won’t mind saying hello to anyone.

I know my family will be attending and enjoy the festivities and they’ll have my son which will be great to see as I work.

I’m really looking forward to listenting to all the live music that will be provided and I think it is really great to see some musicians from SPC take over the Gazebo. There will be students and faculty both playing music.

I’m a bigger fella so I didn’t get that way by skipping out on all the food vendors either.

My mom always took me to celebrate Early Settlers when I was little, so I hope I can continue the tradition with him as he continues to grow, and we have Cotton & Crude.

I know we are celebrating the Early Settlers of Levelland, but I hope folks from surrounding communities within Hockley aren’t shy about attending as well.

Working with the wonderful Chamber of Commerce in Sundown, when it comes to Oil Patch Day, they are extending a welcoming hand to communities surrounding them.

I think that is a great aspect to bring to events such as these. The more people involved the better, but it allows our reach to grow as a community and it shows how friendly we are.

I know a lot of people are excited for the concert portion of the festival and I believe people should be.

If other communities can hold festivals with great bands or musicians, I think the Chamber has brought in something that can unite all generations and offer a quality experience for the community.

I see this overall experience as a breathe of fresh air and now into its second year, the whole thing will be a lot smoother.

All these entities within Levelland want to make a Levelland a place people want to be happy to be from and bring in people from other areas to celebrate the amazing things the community offers. This is just another step in the right decision.
