Nothing describes west Texas weather than what we experienced Sunday.
I couldn’t help but stare out of the window of my house expecting to being the Wizard of Oz scene seeing my neighbor riding their bike in a cloud of dirt and debre.
The majority of Sunday evening felt like we were experiencing tornadic winds without the tornado itself.
Living outside of city limits in the west part of Levelland, the fire that broke out near FM 300 and Kelly Road had be a bit worried.
Having continuous chats with our county’s emergency coordinator in recent months, he’s made me very aware that we could be expecting a horrendous fire season with the drought we’ve been experience and the fuel loading these field have produced.
Receiving updates, that is the only thing I could think of.
We a tip of the cap to these first responders and fire fighters who spent the better part of Sunday fighting fires with intense wind speeds and a lot of uncertainty they faced.
With the Levelland Fire Department, Sundown Fire Department, Whiteface Volunteer Fire Department and Sudan Fire Department those groups saved our hides from what could have certainly been more devastating if the wind direction didn’t break when it did.
With a slight wind change, some other areas picked up and that forced these groups to continue to work hard.
I’d also like to thank those who restored our power to the community for those who lost it. Broken telephone poles, downed lines and everything in between, those individuals that had to work in those conditions deserve our thanks as well.
For one evening of windy mayhem, I would put money down that roofing business will pick up.
