The summer heat has made itself known in the state of Texas with temperatures hitting well over 100 degrees this month.
For all of our blue-collar workers having to handle the hot temperatures, please be safe as heat exhaustion and heat stroke are a very real thing.
I know many will say they have been working in these types of conditions for a long period of time, but being aware and safe in the heat is still important.
The same goes for the children being active outside and, or competing in sports such as baseball or softball tournaments. Travel ball is a big thing now and playing several games in the heat can put a toll on the little ones.
Staying hydrated and using sun screen is important as skin cancer is serious.
Before I came back to complete an internship at the News-Press, I was working as a jet-fueler in Lubbock at their private airport and also fueled airlines. Working on a giant slab of concrete in 100-plus degree weather with jet engines blazing doesn’t feel the best and staying safe in the extreme temperatures was also a part of the job.
It could be as simple as playing in the park, working in the garden, mowing a lawn or working in these conditions, but I hope everyone one of our readers exercises caution while outside.
Also, for our animal owners please keep your fur babies in mind when leaving them outside for prolonged period of times.
We are barely hitting July and it isn’t getting any cooler.
