I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday break and are getting to enjoy some time to themselves to relax a bit.
With Christmas behind us and New Year’s around the corner, I encourage our community members to travel safely wherever they go.
It may seem like I am continuously beating my drum encouraging safe travels but defensive driving is more important than ever. Everyone’s life is valuable and losing life on roadways is not fine. We all have places to be during the busy holiday times but we need to be more cognizant of other drivers around us.
I see the reports for wrecks, deaths and arrests and they could easily be avoided with more attention on the roadways. I also tell people that the news can be a light-hearted source of information, but that is only a portion of what makes the news.
I know a lot of readers turn on our local morning news stations on the TV to get ready in the morning and the beginning of the broadcast covers wrecks, arrests and other incidents that are heart breaking.
Safety for ourselves and one another on roadways is of the upmost importance regardless of holiday season. Heavy law enforcement presence on the roadways is there for a reason. We all see the giant signs across busy highways encouraging us to drive safely and be mindful of one another.
They are there for a reason. Be safe traveling.
We have finally come into some colder temperatures, so please be mindful of that as well. Stay warm and cozy as we finally hit these winter temperatures.
When traveling at night or in the early morning when traffic is light, be sure to have a couple of layers or blankets on hand in the vehicle in the case of a vehicle breakdown. I have friends in many places, but if my vehicle broke down in the middle of nowhere, it would take some time before I had any assistance.
We’re Texans, be a good neighbor and think about offering assistance to somebody needing aid on the side of the road if needed. I know that sounds like a dangerous proposition, but be cautious, use common sense and prioritize your own safety.
