I feel like this is the perfect time for my annual baseball is right around the corner column.
For those who know me outside of the News-Press, baseball is my favorite sport and I agree the games may take forever but I still enjoy it.
For our local school districts that have baseball and softball programs, scrimmages began this past weekend and I am giddy with excitement to watch some baseball and softball.
College baseball is my favorite level to watch and I often try to attend as many Texas Tech games as I can. I might even squeeze in a Lubbock Christian game my schedule allows it.
I was born and raised to eat, sleep and breathe baseball.
In my opinion, Levelland Lobo baseball has one of the best fields in West Texas. Playing Babe Ruth and high school baseball on that field was amazing.
Additionally, a lot of our youth baseball and softball leagues are in the sign up phase and I encourage parents to put their kids on the field.
One thing I want to remind parents is that Division One scholarships are not handed out during youth league years.
Allow your children to enjoy their time on the field and have fun. Winning is always better than losing but kids lose that love for the game when parents and coaches believe that livelihoods are on the line when a coach-pitch game is does not end the way they want to.
Also, please be considerate of the officiating crews. Them volunteering their time allows us to hold these leagues.
