These past few weeks have felt long for many community members within Hockley County.
The storms have not been kind to us heading into storm season.
My heart goes out to those that have been affected by these severe storms we have experienced within Levelland and Hockley County.
I encourage anyone who is needing assistance to get it. There are resources in place such as FEMA, Red Cross and other wonderful organizations that are going out of there way to ensure the citizens of this community are being taken care of.
The willingness of our community members to help one another has been phenomenal. I encourage those who would like to lend a helping hand to volunteer a portion of their time to assist in the recovery efforts.
Those individuals with the desire to help can go to the Levelland Fire Station and you will be put in a position to help those who most certainly need it.
Talking with our local officials, this will not be a quick process. I think we can all understand that as resources are finally being made available to those in who are in need it is going to take a considerable amount of time for the process to be completed for everyone that was affected.
During the last storm that caused severe damage to our area, the worst I dealt with was a few broken windows and a roof needing to be replaced.
Not everyone is in a financial position to have those necessities replaced in a timely manner. Additionally, you have those who have had their homes completely destroyed.
Words of encouragement only mean so much when individuals are facing hardships such as homes hanging on by a thread.
This situation is not ideal. However, there are those who are willing to lend a hand in times of crisis and I hope those who are facing it receive all they can to help them face this diversity.
At this point I can only come up with the words of exhaustion and tired following what this community has been through in a brief span of time.
Yet, I have seen so many of our community members rally around one another to get the ball rolling to a full recovery. It is not easy to see things in a positive light in the face of diversity, but I encourage those to try as we can only get better as a community when we come together.
