...The best teacher...

As a young mom, I tried to protect my son from any harm that might come his way. I had a long list of don'ts.

Inevitably, the day came when he disobeyed me, like the time when he put his finger in a fire to see what it felt like. He did not do that again. As he learned, I did too. Maybe I should let him experience the consequences of his bad choices.

The Bible teaches that difficulties are not just obstacles to be avoided but opportunities for growth, character development, and learning to rely on God.

'God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.' James 1:12 (NLT) Crystals form under intense conditions—heat, pressure, and time. Some, like diamonds, emerge from carbon under immense pressure beneath the earth's surface. Others, like quartz, slowly build up layers over centuries, growing stronger and more refined. The process is a testament to resilience; despite challenging environments, crystals evolve into something structured, beautiful, and enduring.

Much like crystals, people develop resilience through adversity. Hardships, pressures, and challenges shape individuals, refining their character and strength. As diamonds require pressure to transform, people often discover their inner fortitude under challenging moments. Growth isn't always rapid—it's usually slow and gradual, much like the formation of crystals. Resilience in life is about adapting, pushing forward, and emerging stronger despite obstacles.

'Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.' James 1:2-4 (NLT) The lesson? Hardships don't break us—they shape us.
