Brashear Lake fishing dock, kayak launch project complete

The City of Levelland Parks and Cemetery Department have spent a large portion of their time upgrading the various parks throughout the town.

Two of those parks include Lobo Lake and Brashear Lake. Parks and Cemetery Director Dustin Reichelt announced Thursday that the new kayak launch and fishing dock that is ADA compliant at Brashear Lake has been completed and is open to community members to enjoy.

Currently, the trail around the fishing dock are being worked on and may require a few dock closures throughout its time of completion.

The first dock placed was at Lobo Lake. Reichelt explained there had been a lot of use from the community use which prompted the department to establish a similar dock at Brashear Lake.

With both parks, the next item to tackle has been the revamping of the trails themselves.

Reichelt and his department have received the green light to continue working on the Lobo Lake Trial Grant which will include a better walking surface, benches and bench pads and trash cans.

Reichelt explained that the additions will help make the park look better aesthetically. The additions include five benches and five trash cans that will surround the trail and lake.

Restocking of the lakes has been on the list for the department as Lobo Lake was recently restocked.

Community members who are interested in kayaking are encouraged to utilize the dock’s launch area.

Reichelt says there have has been more kayaking activity than anticipated when the Lobo Lake dock was first constructed.

Reichelt has focused his sights on improving the quality of life aspect through the several park areas his department is responsible for.

The city staff reminds community members that all parks owned by the city are closed Sunday through Thursday from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Parks are closed from midnight to 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
