The 286TH District Attorney’s Office today announced that Angel Moreno Chavez, a 50-yearold resident of Levelland, has been sentenced to 15 years in the Texas Department of Public Safety, Institutional Division, following a conviction for sexual assault of a child.
According to District Attorney Donnie Yandell, the sentence was handed down by Judge Anna Hord, in the 286th District Court on May 28, following a jury trial that concluded earlier last week. Chavez was found guilty on one count related to the sexual assault of a child victim.
The investigation was initiated by the Hockley County Sheriff’s Department and prosecuted by the District Attorney's Office.
'This sentence reflects the severity of the crime committed and the court's commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community,' said Yandell. 'We hope this outcome offers a measure of justice and closure to the victim and their family, and it sends a clear message that those who perpetrate these heinous acts will be held fully accountable.'
Following his release from prison, Chavez will also be subject to lifetime registration as a sex offender. Chavez was arrested by HCSO on Feb. 27 and charged with sexual assault of a child and prohibited sexual conduct.
