Following the tragic vehicle wreck that claimed the life of fellow Animal Control Officer Crystal Goforth earlier this month, Jon Corder was air lifted to Lubbock’s UMC where he spent several days in ICU with serious injuries. This past week, the family of Corder removed him from life support. Holding an Honor Walk at UMC Thursday, Levelland PD, Fire Department, as well as city staff, friends, and family gathered in the halls to escort Jon’s remains into surgery. The City of Levelland City Manager Brandon Anderson and Levelland Police Chief Albert Garcia made comments through a press release sent from the city.

Jonathan “Jon” Corder, 41, passed from his injuries on Thursday, October 27, 2022. “We couldn’t be more devastated,” said Chief Albert Garcia. “Jon was a great guy and a great member of the team. Even in death, we see a shining example of his servant heart. He is blessing people all over the United States by being a member of LifeGift.” LifeGift is an organization that matches organ donors and recipients. “Jon is going to help dozens of people, and I can just see the smile he’d have on his face knowing that,” said Chief Garcia.

Corder has worked in the Animal Control division since March 2021. He leaves an 18-- year-old son. “We were excited when Jon joined our team. We watched him grow up since grade school, so this hits us really hard,” said Levelland Police Captain Tammie McDonald. Corder’s father, David Corder, is a retired Sergeant with Levelland Police Department and retired as the Levelland-Hockley County Emergency Management Coordinator in 2021. The release states Corder and Goforth were instrumental in increasing visibility and marketability of the Levelland Animal Shelter animals, hosting local adoption events and joining up with Lubbock-area adoption events, as well. “This is another dark day for our City of Levelland family,” said Brandon Anderson. “I hardly have the words after laying one officer to rest, and now preparing for a second. I would just ask that you keep these families and our City family in your prayers.”
