Commissioners Court approve security upgrades

The Hockley County Commissioners held a meeting Monday that saw the court approve security upgrades in cameras for the juvenile office and the monthly public assistance report.

The Courthouse has recently approved similar security upgrades and County Judge Sharla Baldridge explained that the outdated security cameras were antiquated and out of date.

Seeing an opportunity to cover the expenses with ARPA funds, the court felt the idea of upgrades would be better than waiting down the road and being forced to use alternative means to cover the costs.

Additionally, questions from the court showed that the probation office was still utilizing the older system. With the approval of the agenda item, it was explained that the approval would modernize the system the office had in place.

Moving forward, Cara Phelan read through the public assistance report. She added 10 new clients were approved for public assistance.

The total amount approved for public assistance was $1,275. Seven contacts were approved for the amount of $150, while three were eligible for $75. Four individuals were denied with two being over income and the other two having a bill too high.

Total contacts which consist of calls and walk-ins totaled 121.

Requests for Indigent Health Care totaled 26, public assistance requests totaled 43, veterans services tallied 29, the ministerial alliance had 23 while the pauper burial had none.
