The Hockley County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday to discuss and take action on several proposals and requests from county entities.
After approving last week’s regular meeting minutes, along with all monthly bills and claims submitted to the court through Aug. 3, the commissioners heard a monthly public assistance report.
The court heard a submission by County Tax Assessor Misty Taylor on the 2026 no-new-revenue tax rate and voter-approval tax rate, before approving the proposed tax rate for 2026. They also set the date and time for the public hearing for the tax rate and budget.
In other business, the court took action to approve no changes to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Imposition of Optional Fees for 2027 before approving the letter of Agreement between Hockley County and the Lubbock Regional MHMR Center doing business as StarCare Specialty Health System for CME and Court Testimony.
The commissioners likewise approved adding AI to the District Attorney’s Lexis contract.
Commissioners took action to approve a budgetary line-item transfer to Axon for the purchase of in-car cameras at the request of the Hockley County Juvenile Probation Chief, Scott Winn, along with a proposal from Axon Enterprises for the purchase of three in-car cameras to be used by Winn’s office.
A discussion was held concerning the renewal of the Ambulance Service Contract with the City of Levelland and Covenant Health System doing business as Covenant Ambulance Services. Contract renewal was approved, along with a Rural Ambulance Service Grant sub-agreement for the purchase of an ambulance under House Bill 3000 grant.
In other action, proposals from Pye Barker for the installation of a panic button and emergency notification systems at the courthouse and annex were approved, as was an application to request use of the courthouse lawn as submitted by Levelland Main Street for Trunk or Treat to be held Oct. 31.
The court also approved the continuation certificate issued for Larry Cardona, Reserve Deputy Sheriff for the County of Hockley, and the official bond and oath issued for Jasmin Nicole Posadas, Deputy Clerk for the Hockley County Tax Office.
