Eagles dominate Cubs in baseball scrimmage, 19-3

The Ropes Eagles baseball team traveled on the road to face the Brownfield Cubs in a scrimmage this past Monday, dominating them 19-3.

The Eagles offensive explosion was led by Radley Partington, Elijah Flores and Garland Higginbothum, who combined for 10 total runsbatted- in.

Partington went ¾ at the plate with three RBI’s, Flores went 2/4 with four RBI’s and Garland went 1/3 with a three-run home run.

Other Ropes’ batter stats in the game included Jaivyth Cruz going 2/3 with an RBI, Zach Ramirez going 1/3 with an RBI, Brayden Hogg going 1/3 with an RBI, Ryland Kieth going 1/3 with an RBI and Maddux Sierra going ¼.

“The scrimmage went well for us,” Ropes Head Baseball Coach Nathan Flores said. “We executed well at the plate, and we were able to manufacture some runs on good base running.”

Meanwhile on the mound, the trio of Garland, Flores and Kieth dominated the day, combining for five innings pitched, allowing only one earned run and striking out six.

Garland pitched two scoreless innings and struck out one, Flores surrendered one earned run and struck out four batters in two innings pitched, and Kieth pitched a scoreless inning with a strike out.

“Our pitchers did a good job keeping their batters off balance,” Coach Flores said. “We had two errors on defense which led to some unearned runs, but we bounced back quickly and did a great job executing the rest of the game.”

It was a fruitful scrimmage for the Eagles in preparation for the regular season because not only did they dominate, but they also got all their players reps on both sides of the baseball.

Following the scrimmage, Ropes’ baseball season officially gets under way on Monday at 5 p.m. on the road versus Midland Greenwood.
