Producers across the state of Texas have been battling the rough conditions brought on by thedrought. West Texas producers were tasked with making the decisions earlier in the year to keep their current cotton crop and move forward with planning for the crop next year. As cotton producers work through their harvest, cotton gins are beginning to bring in their normal crews, but shifts are not as long as they commonly are due to the lack of cotton fields due to the turn in this year. As of November 1, the current price of cotton is sitting at $.75 per pound. Pictured are the smaller bales that producers are commonly using. Those bales roughly weigh 5,000 pounds or more.
