High Plains Water District moves to self-serve online permitting process

The High Plains Water District has moved to a self-serve online water well permitting process after having issued a number of permits the past few months.

In September, HPWD reported seven water well permits were issued for Bailey County, 12 in Castro County, 16 in Cochran County, six in Deaf Smith, one in Floyd, seven in Hale, six in Hockley County, nine in Lamb County, two in Lubbock and four in Parmer during Augusts.

In July, three permits were issued for producers or residents in Bailey County six in Castro County, 78 in Cochran County, five in Deaf Smith, one in Floyd, two in Hale, 10 in Hockley, eight in Lamb, one in Lubbock, five in Lynn, four in Parmer, one in Randall and one in Swisher.

In May, four permits were issued for new water wells in Bailey County, 22 in Castro, 45 in Cochran, five in Crosby, one in Deaf Smith, seven in Hale, two in Hockley, 16 in Lamb, five in Lubbock, eight in Parmer and one in Swisher.

During April, HPWD issued 79 water well permits, including two in Castro County, 44 in Cochran County, three in Hale, four in Hockley, five in Lamb, three in Lubbock, 12 in Lynn and six in Parmer.

In March, one permit was issued in Bailey, five in Castro, 18 in Cochran, two in Deaf Smith, one in Hockley, three in Lamb, eight in Lubbock, nine in Lynn and one in Parmer. The two permits in Deaf Smith were for the Dockum Aquifer and four in Cochran were for the Edwards-Trinity Aquifer.

In February, 18 permits were completed for Castro County 27 for Cochran, nine for Deaf Smith, one for Floyd, three for Hale, three for Hockley, nine for Randall, five for Lubbock, three for Lynn and six for Parmer. Four of the Deaf Smith and four of the Randall County permits were for the Dockum Aquifer.

In January, water well permits issued by county included; Castro, four; Cochran 19; Deaf Smith, five including three for the Dockum Aquifer; Floyd, two; Hale, one; Hockley, one; Lamb, two; Lubbock, three; Lynn, 10; and Parmer, one.

In December, 2022, HPWD had 82 applications for water wells completed. In the first three month of the district’s fiscal year, the district had 295 permits completed.
