Hockley County Grand Jury issues 34 indictments

A Hockley County Grand Jury in the 286th Judicial District Court returned 34 indictments.

Travis Rico, 44, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, 1B, less than one gram.

The indictment states, on or about September 8, 2021, the defendant intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance namely methamphetamine, in an amount less than one gram. Bond was issued in the amount of $2,000.

Kimberly Erin Lees, 31, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group Two, less than one gram.

The indictment states, on or about March 28, the defendant intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance namely tetrahydrocannabinol, in an amount less than one gram. Bond was issued in the amount of $5,500.

Steven Quintanilla, 45, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, 1-B, less than one gram.

The indictment states, on or about May 16, the defendant intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance namely methamphetamine, in an amount less than one gram. Bond was issued in the amount of $5,500.

Johnny Joe Chavez, 52, was charged with Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon.

The indictment states, on or about April 8, the defendant knowingly and recklessly caused serious bodily injury to a female individual by shooting her abdomen with a firearm and, or by shooting her leg with a firearm. Additionally, the defendant used or exhibited a deadly weapon during the commission of the assault, namely a firearm. Bond was issued in the amount of $20,000.

Tommy Patino, 41, was charged with the Burglary of a Building.

The indictment states, on or about May 23, the defendant intentionally and knowingly entered a building or a portion of a building without the effective consent of Angel Moreno, the owner, and attempted to commit or committed theft of property. Bond was issued in the amount of $40,000.

Carlos F. Venegas, 40, was charged with one count of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and one count of Theft of Property between $2,500 and $30,000.

The indictment states, on or about April 13, the defendant had the intent to establish, maintain or participate in a combination or in the profits of a combination consisting of the defendant and Jimmy Lee Buckmaster and Joshua Simental who collaborated in carrying on criminal activity namely the theft of property of more than $2,500 but less than $30,000.

The second count states on or about April 13, the defendant unlawfully appropriated a storage shed, of the value of $2,500 or more but less than $30,000 from Derrick Scott, the owner, without effective consent of the owner. Bond was issued in the amount of $2,500.

Joshua Simental, 18, was charged with one count of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and one count of Theft of Property between $2,500 and $30,000.

Regarding the first count, the indictment states, on or about April 13, the defendant had the intent to establish, maintain or participate in a combination or in the profits of a combination consisting of the defendant and Jimmy Lee Buckmaster and Carlos Venegas who collaborated in carrying on criminal activity namely the theft of property of more than $2,500 but less than $30,000.

The second count states on or about April 13, the defendant unlawfully appropriated a storage shed, of the value of $2,500 or more but less than $30,000 from Derrick Scott, the owner, without effective consent of the owner. Bond was issued in the amount of $2,500.

Carlos F. Venegas, 40, was charged with one count of Theft of Property between $2,500 and $30,000 and one count of Tampering, Fabricating Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair.

According to the indictment, on or about January 10, the defendant unlawfully took control of a motor vehicle valued at $2,500 or more but less than $30,000, which belonged to Don Roberts, the rightful owner.

The second count states on or about, January 10, the defendant was aware of an ongoing law enforcement investigation regarding a stolen vehicle and intentionally either set fire to a motor vehicle or permitted one to burn, with the intent to hind its use as evidence in the investigation. Bond was issued in the amount of $20,000.

Justin Lee Dominguez, 36, was charged with Manufacturing, Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, between four and 200 grams.

According to the indictment, on or about June 29, the defendant knowingly possessed, with the intent to deliver, a controlled substance, methamphetamine, in an amount of four grams or more but less than 200 grams.

A second count states, on or about May 12, the defendant unlawfully appropriated a firearm from Dylan Bell, the owner, without effective consent of the owner. Bond was issued in the amount of $30,000.

Alvin Sergio Cortez, 40, Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, 1B, less than one gram.

The indictment states, on or about July 12, the defendant intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance namely methamphetamine, in an amount less than one gram. Bond was issued in the amount of $3,500.

Jonathan Ray Singleton, 43, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, 1-B, less than one gram.

The indictment states, on or about June 9, the defendant intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance namely methamphetamine, in an amount less than one gram. Bond was issued in the amount of $3,000.

Pedro Esparza, 52, was charged with Evading Arrest, Detention with Previous Conviction.

According to the indictment, on or about August 26, the defendant intentionally fled from a peace officer who was attempting to lawfully arrest or detain the defendant. On or about May 14, 2021, the defendant was convicted of the offense of evading arrest or detention in the Hockley County Court and in May 15, 2023, the defendant was also convicted of the offense of evading arrest or detention. Bond was issued in the amount of $14,500.

Tiffany Enez Zapata, 45, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, 1-B, less than one gram.

The indictment states, on or about July 27, the defendant intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance namely methamphetamine, in an amount less than one gram. Bond was issued in the amount of $5,000.

Velma Conde, 32, was charged with three counts of Terroristic Threat Against a Public Servant.

According to the indictment, on or about June 20, the defendant threatened to commit violence by means of stabbing Peter Way, a public servant, whom the defendant knew was a public servant, specifically a physician lawfully engaged in performance of an official duty.

Additionally, on or about June 20, the defendant threatened to commit violence by means of assaulting Peter Way, a public servant, whom the defendant knew was a public servant, specifically a physician lawfully engaged in performance of an official duty.

The second count states, on or about June 20, the defendant threatened to commit violence by means of stabbing Jacqueline Gaona, a public servant, whom the defendant knew was a public servant, specifically a nurse lawfully engaged in performance of an official duty.

Additionally, on or about June 20, the defendant threatened to commit violence by means of assaulting Jacqueline Gaona, with intent to place Peter Way in fear of imminent serious bodily injury.

The third count states, on or about June 20, the defendant threatened to commit violence by means of stabbing Jacob Bray, a public servant, whom the defendant knew was a public servant, specifically a nurse lawfully engaged in performance of an official duty Additionally, on or about June 20, the defendant threatened to commit violence by means of assaulting Jacob Bray with the intent to place peter Way in fear of imminent serious bodily injury. The defendant knew Bray was a public servant, specifically a nurse lawfully engaged in performance of an official duty. Bond was issued in the amount of 10,000.

Timothy Andrew Delgado, 35, was charged with Evading Arrest, Detention with Previous Conviction.

According to the indictment, on or about July 15, the defendant intentionally fled from a peace officer who was attempting to lawfully arrest or detain the defendant. On or about January 28, 2009, the defendant was convicted of the offense of evading arrest or detention in the Hockley County Court. Bond was issued in the amount of $3,500.

Lupe Reyes Jr,, 63, was charged with Assault Family, Household Member with a Previous Conviction.

According to the indictment, on or about June 18, the defendant intentionally and recklessly caused bodily injury to female individual whom the defendant has or has had a family relationship by shoving her to the floor and, or by shoving her into the door frame.

It was also stated the defendant has a previous family violence conviction for Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Member, on or about November 4, 2010. Bond was issued in the amount of $6,000.

Jayden Timothy Santos, 19, was charged with Burglary of a Habitation Intend Other Felony and Criminal Mischief between $2,500 and $30,000.

According to the indictment, on or about April 27, the defendant intentionally and knowingly entered a habitation without the effective consent of the owner, Letty Zapata, with the intent to commit the felony offense of Criminal Mischief in an amount of more than $2,500 but less than $30,000. Also, the defendant had the intent to commit the felony offense of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and used or exhibited a deadly weapon, namely a knife.

The second count states, on or about April 27, the defendant intentionally damaged or destroyed tangible property, thereby causing the aggregated amount of pecuniary loss to property resulting from the damage or destruction of the property in the amount of $2,500 or more but less than $30,000. Bond was issued in the amount of $30,000.

Christopher Sanchez, 46, was charged with Manufacturing, Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, less than one gram.

According to the indictment, on or about July 26, the defendant knowingly possessed, with the intent to deliver, a controlled substance, methamphetamine, in an amount less than one gram. Bond was issued in the amount of $6,000.

Monica Villarreal Reyes, 42, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, 1-B, between one and four grams and Tampering, Fabricate Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair.

The indictment states, on or about July 1, the defendant intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance namely methamphetamine, in an amount of one gram or more but less than four grams.

The second count states, on or about July 1, the defendant knowing that an investigation was pending, namely a traffic stop investigation, concealed a baggie with the intent to impair its availability as evidence in the investigation. Bond was issued in the amount of $25,000.

Saul H. Salas, 51, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, 1B, less than one gram.

The indictment states, on or about May 25, the defendant intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance namely methamphetamine, in an amount less than one gram. Bond was issued in the amount of $7,500.

Armando Salas, 60, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, 1-B, less than one gram.

The indictment states, on or about May 25, the defendant intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance namely methamphetamine, in an amount less than one gram. Bond was issued in the amount of $5,000.

Joeie Len Romine, 54, was charged with Tampering, Fabricate Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair and Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, 1-B, between one and four grams.

According to the indictment, on or about July 7, the defendant knew a traffic violation investigation was being conducted and concealed suspected drug paraphernalia, with intent to impair its availability as evidence in the investigation.

The second count states, on or about July 7, the defendant knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine in an amount of more than one gram and less than four grams. Bond was issued in the amount of $10,000.

Ryan Slater Aragon, 27, was charged with Disturbance, Harassment of a Public Servant.

According to the indictment, on or about July 30, the defendant with the intent to assault, harass or alarm a peace officer, knew the complainant was a peace officer who was lawfully discharging an official duty. Bond was issued in the amount of $2,000.

Alvin Sergio Cortez, 40, Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, 1B, between one and four grams.

The indictment states, on or about August 16, the defendant intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance namely methamphetamine, in an amount of more than one gram but less than four grams. Bond was issued in the amount of $4,000.

Jose Nieves Franco, 40, was charged with the Injury Child, Elderly, Disabled Reckless BI, Mental.

According to the indictment, on or about June 18, the defendant intentionally caused bodily injury to a child 14-years-old or younger by hitting the child in the face with his fits. During the assault, the defendant used his fists as a deadly weapon, or by hitting the child’s head with his fist.

A second count states the defendant intentionally caused bodily injury to another individual whom the defendant has or has had a family relationship by hitting the child’s face with his fist. It is also stated the defendant has a previous family violence conviction for Serious Bodily or Mental Injury to Child, on or about April 16, 2003, or a previous family violence conviction for Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Member, on or about April 3, 2002. Bond was issued in the amount of $50,000.

Jose Nieves Franco, 40, was charged with Aggravated Assault Causes Serious Bodily Injury.

According to the indictment, on or about June 18, the defendant intentionally caused bodily injury to a male individual by breaking the individuals nose and kicking the head and abdomen of said individual. Also, the defendant used his hand or fist and foot as deadly weapons.

A second count states the defendant intentionally caused bodily injury to a male individual, a person with whom the defendant has or has had a family relationship by breaking the complainants nose and, or impeding the normal breathing and, or circulation of blood of the complainant. Bond was issued in the amount of $50,000.

Michael Dale Elliott, 41, was charged with Terroristic Threat Against Peace Officer, Judge.

According to the indictment, one or about July 18, the defendant threatened to commit violence by means of assaulting a peace officer whom is a Hockley County Sheriff Deputy who was lawfully engaged in performance of an official duty.

A second count states the defendant threatened to commit violence by means of assaulting a peace officer with the intent to place him in fear of imminent serious bodily injury. Bond was issued in the amount of $10,000.

Carlos F. Venegas, 40, was charged with Obstruction or Retaliation.

According to the indictment, on or about August 12, the defendant intentionally threatened to cause harm to a peace officer, specifically assaulting the peace officer in realization. Bond was issued in the amount of $20,000.

John Angel Flores, 48, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One-1B, less than one gram.

The indictment states, on or about September 8, 2021, the defendant intentionally and knowingly possessed a controlled substance namely methamphetamine, in an amount less than one gram. Additionally, it was further presented that the defendant committed the offense in, on, or within 1,000 feet of a playground. Bond was issued in the amount of $1,500.

Justin Lee Dominguez, 36, was charged with Manufacturing, Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, between four and 200 grams.

According to the indictment, on or about June 16, the defendant knowingly possessed, with the intent to deliver, a controlled substance, methamphetamine, in an amount between four and 200 grams. Bond was issued in the amount of $7,500.

Tiffany Ann Mestas, 47, was charged with Aggravated Assault Date, Family, House with Weapon and Assault Family, Houshold Member with Previous Conviction.

According to the indictment, on or about June 19, the defendant intentionally caused serious bodily injury to a female individual, a member of the defendant’s family by striking the individuals face and head with a metal pipe or pole and exhibited the object as a deadly weapon. Additionally, the defendant hit the individual with a wooden pipe.

A second count states the defendant intentionally caused serious bodily injury by striking the female individual in the face and head with a metal pipe. It is also stated the defendant has a previous family violence conviction for Abuse of a Child, on or about October 19, 2016. Bond was issued in the amount of $8,000.

Tiffany Ann Mestas, 47, was charged with Obstruction and Retaliation.

According to the indictment, on or about June 19, the defendant knowingly threatened a peace officer, specifically assaulting her in retaliation. Bond was issued in the amount of $1,500.

Pedro Esparza, 52, was charged with Evading Arrest, Detention with a Previous Conviction.

According to the indictment, on or about July 1, the defendant intentionally fled from a peace officer who was attempting to lawfully arrest or detain the defendant.

Additionally, the defendant fled from another peace officer who was attempting to lawfully arrest or detain the defendant with a previous conviction for the offense of Evading Arrest or Detention, on or about May 14, 2021. Bond was issued in the amount of $7,500.

Samuel Martinez, 39, was charged with Injury Child, Elderly, Disabled with Intent Bodily Injury.

According to the indictment, on or about, June 25, the defendant intentionally caused bodily injury to a female individual, 65-yearsold or older by hitting the individual in the face with their fist or hand, hitting the head with their fist or hand and hitting the wrist with their fist or hand.

A second count states the defendant knowingly threatened the female individual with imminent bodily injury, Bond was issued in the amount of $10,000.
