The Hockley County Election Office on Sept. 15, joined a coalition of thousands of partners across the country to celebrate National Voter Registration Day with a coordinated effort aimed at getting every eligible American registered to vote in advance of the general election for federal, state and county offices in November.
National Voter Registration Day is the perfect day to start getting America Vote Ready for the general election in November. In a year with thousands of elections in every corner of the country, the event serves as a civic rallying point that works to boost the ranks of American voters to ensure that democracy, and the course of our democracy’s future, is built and powered by everyone.
The Hockley County Election office will continue their push for voter registration for the November election on Sept. 19 with special office hours during the Levelland Main Street Rise, Shine and Shop event.
To be eligible to register to vote, residents must be a U.S. citizen and resident of the county, at least 17 years and 10 month old on the date the application is submitted and 18 years old on election day, not be a convicted felon, but may have completed sentence, probation and parole, and not have been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.
Offices will be open for voter registration from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. All address changes and new registrations must be made by Oct. 5 to be eligible for the Nov. 3 general election.
