According to the Hockley County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, October 20, Hockley County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2600 block of Robert Lee in reference to a domestic disturbance.
Deputies were advised an assault had occurred, and later learned the individual had multiple active felony warrants. The suspect retreated into the residence as deputies arrived on scene and would not answer deputies when he was called.
Levelland Police Department officers were requested to assist in the situation, and several deputies were contacted to respond. Multiple attempts were made to negotiate the individual out of the residence to bring a resolution to the situation, however, the subject refused to contact the negotiator.
Based on the totality of the circumstances, less-than-lethal options were utilized to attempt to have the subject exit the residence. During a search of the residence, and following a second deployment of less-than-lethal pepper ball rounds, the subject was finally located hiding under the house and surrendered to deputies.
Abraham Almager, 46 years old, of Levelland, was taken into custody and transported to the Hockley County Detention Center to be booked on the following charges: Assault Causing Bodily Injury of Pregnant Person, Family Violence; Resisting Arrest Search or Transport; Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon (Warrant); Manufacture/Delivery of Controlled Substance (Warrant); and two municipal warrants.
“The cooperation and teamwork displayed by the Sheriff’s Office and the Police Department led to a safe resolution to a potentially volatile situation,” stated the report. “We are grateful for our local partners, and blessed to have outstanding personnel with our agencies. A special thank you to the Levelland PD, Sundown PD, Levelland Fire, Covenant EMS, and especially our Hockley County Sheriff’s deputies for their response.”
The report stated all subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law and the matter remains under investigation.
