The Texas General Land Office (GLO) will host a homeowner outreach event to assist Hockley County residents impacted by the 2024 weather disasters on June 6.
The event will be held at the Levelland Fire Station from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will provide information on available programs to help eligible homeowners repair, rebuild, or receive reimbursement for stormrelated damage to their homes.
Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham announced the 2024 Disasters Program for Homeowners in July 2025, stating that applications for home rebuilding and repair reimbursement programs were available to residents in 27 counties impacted by multiple disasters in 2024. These included straight-line wind storms, tornadoes, and Hurricane Beryl.
The Texas GLO set aside $244,100,000 to the Homeowner Assistance Program to help repair and reconstruct owneroccupied, single-family homes, and also allocated $43,100,000 for the Homeowner Reimbursement Program, which would provide eligible applicants with reimbursement for outof- pocket home repairs that cost between $3,000 and $75,000.
Additionally, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) granted $555,687,000 in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding to help support recovery programs in areas impacted by the Texas severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, flooding, and Hurricane Beryl.
At present, access to these programs is extended to such counties as Hockley, Anderson, Cooke, Dallas, Galveston, San Jacinto, and others.
The programs are available for primary residences only, and homeowners can only apply for one of two programs, the reimbursement or repair/ reconstruction assistance.
Applications must be submitted along with required documents to be considered. Applicants are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, and eligible homeowners are encouraged to apply immediately at recovery.texas.gov/apply.
Buckingham stated that “the Texas General Land Office’s housing programs have helped more than 12,000 Texas families rebuild their homes - and their lives.”
She added that “while many communities are familiar with the GLO’s housing efforts, many are new to the programs. We hope homeowners still struggling to recover in the 27 eligible counties will visit recovery.texas.gov/apply to learn more and apply.”
The Levelland outreach event is to bring awareness to residents affected by the 2024 disaster of ways they can find help and assistance with rebuilding their homes.
