As the Keep Levelland Beautiful program continues to make a positive impact for the Levelland community, they have been recognized as grant recipients by the Keep Texas Beautiful organization.
As a 2022 Green Bag grant recipient, the funding will be coming through H-E-B and Central Market.
The KTB organization hand picked 10 affiliate communities which will receive $25,000 to support educational and programmatic opportunities relating to sustainablility, recycling, litter prevention, beautification and water conservation.
“We are thankful for sponsors like H-E-B who support our efforts to clean and beautify communities around west Texas,” said Executive Director of KTB, Suzanne Kho. “We were excited by the diversity of proposals we received and cannot wait to see the projects our facilities are able to complete with help from our Green Bag Grants.”
To assist with the implementation of their project, Levelland has received $1,750 to begin and support their proposed community project.
KTB will also be providing additional social media and marketing support in their efforts to generate awareness.
KLB is expected to complete their project by July 2023.
Additionally, KLB will be hosting an electronic recycling event for Hockley County, April 1, with the help of the awarded grant.
KLB volunteers will be handling the event as they help load electronics for proper disposal.
A list of accepted electronics will be available to see at www.levelland.com. The event will run until the truck is full making it a first come, first serve event.
The last time the event was held was in 2016. The event filled an entire semi’s worth with electronics that were not sent to the landfill.
For individuals unfamiliar with the KLB program, Levelland is an affiliate of the program and its local mission is to improve the community’s appearance through partnerships, education and action.
Beautification is one of the key aspects of community development and has become important when welcoming visitors as well as quality of life.
The KLB have been awarded the Gold Star Status within KTB for three consecutive years as well as first place in the Governor’s Community Achievement Awards winning $160,000 for beautification.
For the award, cities of similar sizes and population are judged together.
