I am a former student of Carver (1952-1964) and a retired head boys basketball coach who currently lives in Abilene.
I was a student athlete at Carver and due to intergration I graduated from Levelland High School in 1965. I received a B.S. and M.Ed. degree from Abilene Christian University.
I would like to believe that Dr. Becky McCutchen fought for the preservation of Carver like the previous superintendent did. Black History and the positive effects that Carver had on the lives of the black students in the community appears to be fading away. The teachers and administrators at Carver taught us self respect and how to set goals for our future.
Many of Carver’s former students are extremely upset at the selling of the Carver school building. We would have gladly purchased the building if we knew it was for sale. It means a lot for our children and grandchildren to see the school that started it all. It has so much history still to be made.
Please don’t demolish Carver!
