The Levelland Farmers Market will be open on June 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 211 Austin Street, Levelland.
This will be the first Levelland Farmers Market event hosted and coordinated by Kelle Ellison, who is hoping to eventually host markets twice a month.
As of last Friday, there are 22 vendors registered to operate booths at the event. They will be selling a variety of food, apparel, and crafts, including sourdough bread, hot sauce, homemade jewelry, fresh produce and eggs, baked goods, custom shirts, leather goods, homemade lotions and scents, and more.
Notable booths for those wishing to take their kids along include Sugar Cloud Co., a cotton candy booth, Coastline Soda Co., a dirty soda booth, and John’s Famous Brittle, a booth selling nut brittles and hard candies.
Also of note, Lone Star Waste Management is donating a dumpster for the event.
In an interview, Ellison explains that, more than anything, “we just need people to come out and support these vendors and buy their stuff. More vendors would be great.”
Ellison says there is room for 48 vendors on the property, the place where she parks and works a barber shop out of her remodeled Silver Streak travel trailer. “We want to try and fill as many vendor spots as we can, so that we can provide families with a fun market experience.”
“People will just bring their canopies, and they’ll set up the things that they want to sell. It’ll be like fresh eggs, vegetables, interactive things for kids,” she says.
When asked what inspired her to start the event, Ellison explained that, after experiencing some unexpected life changes, she felt God was telling her to “figure out something she could do with what she already had.”
“I’m just doing this to help the community and give people an opportunity to showcase their talents and show what they grow, and also to help get a little money in people’s pockets.” She adds that the event can also “build community and create interactions, because we’re so distant now since COVID.”
Ellison’s daughter helped her get online and make flyers, mainly through their Facebook page, Levelland Farmers Market. “We just rolled with it, and we’ve gotten an amazing response. We’ve gotten 26,000 views on our page and almost 900 followers.”
When asked if she planned on having her own booth, Ellison says not yet, as she “wants to be available for the vendors, to help make things go smoothly.” She wants the event to grow first and foremost.
“We’re gonna do it once a month for this month and next month and see how it goes. By August, I’d like to do it twice a month, possibly by doing an evening market.”
She adds that she plans to do the last market in November and, depending on the weather, start back up in April.
To register a booth for the market, you can find a registration link on the Levelland Farmers Market Facebook page. There, you can also find flyers, booth information, and updates.
