Levelland PD issues phone call scam warning

The Levelland Police Department issued a statement on their Facebook page Monday afternoon cautioning community members of a phone scam.

The post details Levelland citizens receiving cell phone calls from unknown person(s) advising them of having kidnapped a loved one. Additionally, the calls are displaying a phone number from Mexico and most of the suspects are Spanish speaking.

The suspects will further describe a possible location of where the victims are being held at gun point will be killed if they not submit a payment via electronic method.

In all events, the kidnaped victim is located at a safe location and is unaware of the call.

“This type of call causes immediate response from law enforcement and sometimes a disruption to the community,” a statement provided within the post. “We are asking our community to be cautious of these calls and report them to the Levelland Police Dispatch Center for a appropriate response. We are utilizing our federal partners to assist us as the calls continue.
