LIFE Foundation supports LISD educators with grants

Every year, the LIFE Foundation comes through for LISD educators. This year, LIFE awarded 14 LISD teachers with grants totaling $5,000.63. The foundation donates money to LISD teachers to make their out-of-the-box ideas come to fruition. Levelland Academic Beginnings Center Principal Ashley Howard and three teachers: Tammy Branch, Victoria Jones and Chrystal Miller, all received grants. Principal Howard will obtain a water table to help children with their fine and gross motor skills.

Branch will receive a LEGO Wall for her classroom for students to engage themselves in spatial skills and engineering.

Jones will purchase portable lab desks and Miller will receive new flexible seating for her classroom.

Two Capitol Elementary educators, Susan Draper, music teacher and Kristy Sanders, P.E. teacher, both received LIFE grants.

Draper will purchase a tabletop stereo system to enhance the music classroom and performances.

Sanders will receive new PE equipment to help teach students to be physically active. The Levelland Middle School Dyslexia Specialist Annie Davis, will purchase the Rite Flight Program for all LISD Dyslexia Specialists: Melody Turner, Mandi Campbell and Jeanne Smith, to offer an alternative education program on LISD campuses. Levelland Intermediate School educators Clara Sanders and Russell Hill, each received LIFE grants. Sanders will purchase the LEGO Spike Prime Set for the Robotics students to make it easier for students to code robots for competitions.

Hill is sponsoring a new LIS student written newsletter and will use the grant to purchase cameras to be used for the photography portion of the process.

South Elementary educators Jessica Mortimer and Latova Ewings received grants to build a new outdoor learning center that will include a greenhouse and picnic tables to enable students to learn botany.

“We thank the LIFE Foundation for helping to fill our classrooms with STEAM activities,” said LISD Superintendent Becky McCutchen, Thank you for helping our students have 21st century innovative minds of tomorrow all the while having fun.”
