Superintendent Dr. Don Heseman issued a statement to Levelland ISD teachers and parents regarding alleged shots fired at LHS.
In his statement, Dr. Huseman assured parents and staff that the social media post alleging that shots were fired was inaccurate.
LISD administration immediately initiated an investigation and threat assessment, and due to the nature of the report the district contacted and involved the assistance of local law enforcement, including School Resource Officers and the Levelland Police Department.
According to Dr. Heseman, “law enforcement responded promptly and after a thorough assessment, it was determined that there was no shooting incident at LHS and the school was safe.
Dr. Heseman went on to say that student safety and welfare are of paramount importance to LISD and they take every allegation of a school safety violation or concern seriously.
“We believe there is no viable threat or present danger to our students at school,” said Heseman. “Nonetheless, we will continue to take all measures necessary to ensure that our students are educated in a safe learning environment. The district will continue to fully cooperate with all authorities having jurisdiction over this matter as needed, and to the fullest extent permitted by law.”
“As the superintendent of schools, I am very proud of the district’s staff and grateful to law enforcement officers for the prompt and proactive measures taken to address the concerns regarding this situation. We appreciate the continued support from parents, students, administrators, teach and staff within the Levelland ISD community.”
According to the FBI, posting about 'shots fired' or threatening a school on social media is illegal, treated as a serious crime, and often prosecuted as a felony. Even if posted as a 'prank' or hoaxes, these actions incur severe consequences, including arrests, federal charges for terroristic threats, and school expulsion. As of 2026, police departments continue to emphasize a 'zero tolerance' approach to these incidents.
