The Levelland Lobos could not overcome a sixth inning rally by the visiting Big Spring Steers last Tuesday in an 11-8 UIL District 5-4A High School Baseball loss.
According to the MaxPreps standings, the Lobos currently sit in fifth place in an extremely fluid race for the four playoff spots. Snyder leads at 6-1 with three games left, Big Spring is second at 4-2, Estacado is at 4-3 in third place. Lake View is in fourth at 3-4. Levelland sits in fifth at 2-4.
Sweetwater is in the cellar at 1-6, but not mathematically eliminated with three games left for most teams.
Levelland trailed 3-2 at the end of the first inning, but tied the score in the second. Big Spring went up 4-3 in the third, but the Lobos led 6-5 at the end of four innings.
Levelland added two more runs in the top of the sixth, but the Big Spring bats came alive in the bottom of the inning for six runs.
The scoreless seventh gave the Steers an 11-8 win.
Brayden Moore took the loss for Levelland, going 2/3 inning and allowing one hit and one run with two strikeouts.
Carson Boggs started on the mound for the Lobos. He allowed four runs on four hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
Jerry Haile gave up eight hits and six runs with a strikeout and two walks over 3 1/3 innings of relief.
Joel Pena had four hits for two runs and an RBI. Blake Klose had three hits for a run and two RBIs. Marco Guillen had a hit and an RBI. Rusty Johnson had a hit and a run. Noah Tienda had a hit and an RBI.
Tyler Pemberton had two hits. Alex Cervantez had a hit and two runs.
The Lobos will host Sweetwater on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
