Area FFA students attended the 98th Annual Texas FFA State Convention this past week to participate in workshops and other activities.
A highlight was the presentation of Lone Star Degrees for which the students put forth much effort and determination. Texas FFA has 2,641 recipients.

The State FFA Lone Star Degree is the highest degree of membership the State FFA Association can award. To receive a State FFA Degree, members must meet stringent requirements including having received a Chapter FFA Degree, been an active member for at least two years, completed 360 hours of school instruction in agriculture education including an SAE, earned and productively invested at $1,000 and worked at least 300 hours in excess of scheduled class room in a supervised ag program, demonstrated leadership ability, served as an FFA officer, chairperson or committee member, academic record, and planning and implementation of chapter’s program of activities.
Additionally, the student must have completed 10 activities above the chapter level in at least three of six different categories: leadership development events, career development events, conventions and meetings, project shows, student awards and leadership and service. They must also complete at least 25 hours of community service in a minimum of two different activities.
