A car crash between an SUV and a pickup truck killed two and seriously injured a Sundown child this past Thursday.
The accident occurred southwest of Wolfforth at the intersection of FM 1585 and CR 1100, according to the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office.
The crash occurred when the driver of the SUV, Joseph Ellis, 49, was heading east and for an unknown reason, crossed into the westbound lane, striking a pickup truck, according to DPS.
Ellis and his girlfriend, Gina Ganaway, 49, were both pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash due to their injuries. Another passenger in the SUV was a 6-year-old boy, Tyler, the son of Ganaway.
The child was immediately taken to UMC in Lubbock by ambulance with serious injuries, while the driver of the pickup truck had minor injuries and refused to go to the hospital.
A verified Go Fund Me has been started by Ashley Nicole, Tyler's aunt, Ganaway's sister.
Tyler has suffered multiple serious injuries, including swelling on the brain, according to the Go Fund Me bio.
Nicole describes Tyler as a “bright and resilient child,” and says all donations will go towards medical bills, therapy, surgeries and any adaptive equipment he may need as he heals.
“We want to ensure he has every opportunity for the best possible recovery and future,” said Nicole.
Tyler is a student at Sundown ISD Elementary according to a Facebook post.
“In moments like these, we are reminded that we are more than a school– we are a family. When one of our own is hurting, we come together to offer hope, strength, and support,” the Facebook post said.
The Go Fund Me has raised over $10,000 in just three days. One donor, Brian McLean has donated $1,000.
