Mallet Event Center hosts 80th ABC Rodeo festivities

The Hockley County community and it’s neighbors can expect the 80th ABC Pro Rodeo to kick off March 24 through April 1 at the Mallet Event Center in Levelland.

The performance dates listed are March 30 through April 1. In addition to the rodeo event itself, there will be a Cowboys and Gypsies vendor show.

Action will begin Friday, March 24 with check in beginning at 12 p.m. for the Premier Water Works BBQ Cook-Off. Later in the day, the ABC Pro Rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, March 25, the Premier Water Works BBQ Cook-Off begins at 8 a.m. Food trucks will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Fibermax Mutton Bustin’ registration period begins at 11 a.m., while the competition will kick off at 1 p.m.

The BBQ competition awards will be given out at 4:30 p.m. to end Saturday. Slack will be held Wednesday, March 29th.

Rodeo gates will open at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 30th.

The Cowboys and Gypsies Vendor Show will begin at 6 p.m. as well and entrance will be allowed with rodeo ticket.

The ABC Pro Rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the theme being “Tough Enough to Wear Pink.”

For Friday, March 31st, rodeo gates will open at 6 p.m. and the vendor show will begin at the same time as well with entrance being allowed with a rodeo ticket similar Thursday.

The ABC Pro Rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 1st will wrap up the event with the vendor show beginning at 10 a.m. through 4 p.m.

Rodeo gates will open at 12 p.m. while the rodeo will begin at 1:30 p.m.

For the second part of the day, rodeo gates and the vendor show will begin at 6 p.m.

The rodeo itself begins at 7:30 with the theme being Chevy Night.

The ABC Rodeo Dance will conclude the evening with a 10 p.m. start featuring Jody Nix. There will be a $10 charge at the door.

There will also be bullfights at the close of each performance.
