Crude oil and natural gas production as reported to the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) for May 2023 came from
163,182 oil wells and 87,370 gas wells.
Crude oil production reported by the RRC is limited to oil produced from oil leases and does not include condensate, which is reported separately by the RRC.
Preliminary May 2023 reported crude oil production was
113,851,974 barrel for a daily average of 3,672,644 barrels.
Preliminary May 2023natural gas production was 917,272,001 Mcf (thousand cubic feet) for a daily average of 29,589,419 Mcf. May, 2023 production of both oil and gas were less than the volumes produced in May, 2022. At that ti,796me, the state produced 129,073,979 barrels of crude. The state also produced
993,667,070 Mcf of gas during May, 2022.
While not ranked among the most producting oil and gas counties in the state, Hockley, Cochran, Terry and Lamb counties, as well as others on the South Plains, contributed to the states viable oil and gas industries.
According to Railroad Commission statistics, Hockley County produced 723,798 barrels of oil during May. It also produced
510,231Mcf of natural gas and 116 barrels of condensate, Hockley County is ranked the 25 th most production oil county in the state and 87th in natural gas production, Cochran County produced 194,480 barrels of oil and
122,745 Mcf of natural gas during May. Cochran is ranked 39th in the state for oil production and is ranked 137th in gas production.
Terry County produced
175,339 barrels of oil and 26,274 Mcf of gas in May. The county was ranked 42nd in the state in oil production and 165th in gas production. Lamb County produced 12,966 barrels of crude and15,112 Mcf of gas. The county was ranked 127th in the state in oil production and 173rd in gas production.Lubbock County produced 68,482 barrels of oil and
4,911 Mcf of gas during May. It as ranked 64 th in oil production and
