The Levelland Fire Department responded to a pit fire that had reached surrounding grass near Avenue X, Saturday. The department sent two grass trucks and a tanker to extinguish the fire. LFD Fire Chief Jay McKay reminded community members that outdoor burning can be dangerous with the extreme heat and low humidity. Hockley County is currently not under a burn ban. Community members are encouraged to reach out to the LFD to give notice of burning activity beforehand.
