Ropes ISD begins holiday break early amid electrical issues

Holiday break has begun for Ropes ISD as it was announced through their Facebook page that an unforseen electrical issue had caused an outage Friday.

On Friday morning it was announced that Ropes ISD was experiencing a partial power outage and a hold was in place for students until the power had been restored. Later in the day another update was provided stating students were being sent home for electricians that were on-site to begin properly assessing the electrical issued that had occurred.

Ropes ISD Superintendent Joel Willmon provided a brief informational video explaining the situation along with plans to adjust the academic calender to accommodate the adjusted holiday break on their Facebook page.

Categorized as a mechanical failure, Willmon believes the electricity will be fixed later this week. With Christmas Break beginning as a result of the electrical issues, classes are scheduled to resume January 8, 2024. A teacher work day that was originally scheduled for January 8, the day will be replaced with a full class day and semester exams are planned for January 9 and 10. No classes will be held January 12, 2024, however, a teacher work day will be held.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience or hardship this may cause, but we do not feel like this is a situation where we want kids in the school with no electricity, no heat and no power,” explained Willman.
