...Satisified?..

Marjorie is a dynamic woman in her early 40s, renowned for her insatiable hunger for knowledge. She has always been intellectually curious, a trait that has only deepened with age.

She was the type of child who asked endless questions and read every book she could get her hands on. Her parents, recognizing her thirst for knowledge, encouraged her to pursue her interests, leading her to excel in school and eventually earn a scholarship to a prestigious university.

In addition to her professional pursuits, Marjorie remains a hungry soul with a myriad of personal interests.

'To a hungry soul, every bitter thing is sweet.' Proverbs 27:7 (NKJV) As an example, among many things, she is fluent in three languages and is currently learning Japanese, fascinated by its culture and literature. She has taken several art classes to refine her painting skills. She also enjoys gardening, which complements her professional interests. Traveling extensively, she believes that experiencing different cultures firsthand is one of the best ways to learn. She documents her travels through a blog where she shares her insights and experiences.

Driven, compassionate, and incredibly resourceful, her friends and colleagues admire her dedication and often seek her advice. She believes knowledge is power and that pursuing it is a lifelong journey.

Marjorie's life is a continuous adventure of discovery and growth, inspiring those around her to embrace their hunger for knowledge. Although her quest enriches the mind and soul, it will ultimately never satisfy her. It is a worthy pursuit in this life, but what about her life in eternity? What if she were spiritually as hungry for the things of God as for the temporary gains of this world?

Marjorie's hunger for knowledge makes me think about being spiritually hungry. The Bible talks about people lacking and suffering hunger for physical food, but it also addresses the positive side of hunger. Consider Matthew 5:6: 'Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.' (NKJV).

Now that is a hunger that I have. I am ready for Jesus to return and make the new heavens and earth that will be established in righteousness. From the deepest part of my heart, I cry out for it. I want to be done with this body of sin. As Paul says in Romans 7, I do the things I don't want to and don't do what I should do. I have grown weary from this constant conflict.

I have seen people not hungry for the things of the Lord, and it grieves me because they are satisfied with only a tiny portion of the life that God has given us here on earth. I think it grieves Him as well. 'We are satisfied,' they say, and their growth is stunted with those words.

Ah, to be hungry for righteousness! We need the presence of the Lord and His Word. It is the only way to experience every bit of His goodness, both in this life and in the life to come.

'A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.' Proverbs 27:7 (NKJV)
