Smyer aldermen to meet Sept. 17

The city of Smyer is schedule to hold a regular meeting and public hearing on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Smyer Senior Citizens Building.

Aldermen will conduct a public hearing for the budget for fiscal year 2027 then consider and take necessary actions on resolution to adopt the budget.

The council is expected to consider and take necessary action on the ordinance to set the tax rate for fiscal year 2027, the ordinance on adopting new water rates, the ordinance for adopting new sewer rates, and the ordinance adopting new garbage collection rates.

Additionally, they are expected to take action on the ballot for the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool (TML-IRP) Board of Trustees election.

Aldermen are expected to review and discuss Ordinance 1, water wells and Ordinance 2, drilling, as well as Ordinance 3, fire department, Ordinance 3, South Plains Electric Coop (SPEC), and Ordinance 4, natural gas.

Other topics for discussion on the agenda include the upkeep, mowing, policy for the Smyer Cemetery. the recording of council meetings, the financial, engineer, fire department, water and wastewater reports.
