Sundown city library receives grant

The City of Sundown Library is humbled and pleased to announce that it is a recent recipient of a generous grant from The Prentice Farrar Brown and Alline Ford Brown Foundation toward a capital campaign project.

The $300,000 funds will give the rural library a fantastic start in their renovation of the church into a state-of-the-art community facility. This hub will house a space for all ages from babies to seniors.

Library Director A’ndrea McAdams expresses tremendous gratitude for this substantial gift from the Dallas-based foundation.

“This new facility located a block from our school will be an asset to families and students, but we also have spaces to include remote employees and senior activities as well,” said McAdams.

Working with architect Jay Winfrey of WCA Design from Lubbock as well as library designer Denelle Wrightson from Dallas, has given a rough plan of direction, and McAdams is looking forward to finalizing them to rehab the 4,000+ square foot church.

With additional recent funding from the CH Foundation as well as the National Preservation Trust Forum, the capital campaign is approaching the halfway point.

“With this gift from the Brown Foundation, our summer construction plans will have a wonderful beginning, and we look forward to bringing an oilfield oasis of literacy and social activity to Sundown,” said McAdams.

Additionally, the Library was also awarded $22,000 from Parkhill, Smith and Cooper in Lubbock for additional renovation funds.
