TRACK AWARDS- The Smyer High School Boys’ Track Team was honored at an awards ceremony in the high school auditorium last Tuesday. Individual awards included: Area and Regional Qualifier and Top Field Award, Gavin St. Clair; Area Qualifier and Top Sprinter Award, Christian Charles; Area and Regional Qualifier and Most Valuable Player, Micah Zapata; Academic All State Track Honorable Mention, Cameron Gutierrez; Academic All State Track First Team, Ben Steele. (Photo Courtesy of Jay Kelley) STRONG AWARD- The Strong as Steele Award is given to the student athlete who has lettered for at least three years and exemplifies service and selflessness in athletics and academics. It is given in honor of the late Tim Steele who passed away while a student at Smyer High School. This year’s winner was Ben Steele, Tim’s younger brother and the award was present by his parents, Brian and Rene. Individual boys awards included: Most Valuable Player, Micach Zapata, Newcomer, Ismael Pizano, Blue Heart, Joe Bueno. The boys team qualifed for the regional meet and Zapata was a state qualifier.
