Water summit to be held by TTU, AWSS

The Texas Tech University Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Re-sources and the Texas Section of the American Water Works Association are collaborating to host the third annual Agricultural Water Sustainability Summit (AWSS) at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center on Aug. 24-26.

Attendees will have the opportunity to share ideas and knowledge with state industry leaders, researchers and stakeholders on how to use water more sustainably.

The goal is to create a nation-wide forum for all water users, including municipalities, industry, producers, researchers and students to share and learn about the various needs related to water and focus solely on water issues.

According to AWSS, agriculture is the largest consumer of water in Texas, using more than 60% of the state’s available supplies annually, according to the association. That water produces more than $159 billion in food and fiber each year nationally, representing 8.6% of the Texas GDP.

The AWSS is creating a forum for stakeholders to gather, exchange ideas and knowledge, and create a new vision of how water is used in the future.

Registration options include the full conference ($200); one day registration ($150) and student registration for full conference ($75).

Individuals can also register for the Aug. 26 workshop ($50) only from 8 a.m. to noon. The workshops offered are Ethics for Water, Wastewater Professionals and Chemical Applicator License or Well Driller License.

Full registration offers full access to presentations and exhibit hall, lunch on the day one and two, access to dinner on day one, access to demonstrations and workshops.
