New state laws to take effect on Jan. 1

Several new Texas laws will take effect in the upcoming year and will be effective on Jan. 1, 2026.The Texas Responsible AI Governance Act (TRAIGA), which creates a regulatory framework for AI and prohibits its use for certain purposes.

South Plains College announced the Spring 2026 fundraising event will be a Monte Carlo night, featuring games, food and live performances that will bring the community together to support SPC student scholarships.
