Boudreaux joins News-Press staff

The Levelland & Hockley County News-Press is welcoming Trinity Boudreaux as its newest intern.Trinity was originally born and raised in Burleson, Texas, just 20 minutes south of Fort Worth. She is the youngest daughter of Summer and Randy Boudreaux and sister to Hunter Trotter.

Golden Spread Classic kicks off June 26

The Golden Spread Classic Steer & Heifer Show will be held on June 26-27 at the Mallet Event Center and Arena.The Golden Spread Classic began in 1985 and has been proudly hosted at the Mallet Event Center and Arena in Levelland since 2012.

Supplementary crop suggestions during drought

Nominations open for FSA county committees

Nominations are now being accepted for farmers and ranchers to serve on local U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committees.These committees make important decisions about how federal farm programs are administered locally.

Legislation filed to open court records to journalists

The National Newspaper Association (NNA) has joined a campaign by journalism and good government organizations to require federal courts to end the sale of public documents through the courts’ PACER system. NNA joins others in promoting free access to these records.Sens.

Congress works on revisions to housing act

The U.S. Congress is currently working on revisions to H.R. 6644 or the “Housing for the 21st Century Act.” This bill revises federal housing programs, including expanding available financing for affordable housing and providing grants for planning and community development activities.

LISD holds school board meeting

The Levelland ISD board held its regular board meeting on June 17 to hear reports on safety, the survey, financial reports and an academic report.The meeting began by going into an executive closed session.

The new office is located at 710 Ave. H across the street from the office and offers many more voting booths, storage and space for upcoming elections. Elections administrator Jody Rose offered tours of the new office. Hockley County commissioners and County Judge Sharla Baldridge attended the opening, along with Rose and the elections staff.
