AgriLife researchers minimize nitrogen loss

While agriculture producers apply nitrogen fertilizer to supply nutrients to their crops, they can’t always keep those nutrients in the soil for maximum efficiency, often losing them into the atmosphere or water supply as nitrates and nitrous oxide.The project is led by Nithya Rajan, Ph.D.

MCEP grain leaders tour West Texas agriculture

Thirteen farmers and association executives from regions across the nation observed cotton and other agricultural operations in West Texas Oct. 20-25, as part of the National Cotton Council’s (NCC) Multi-Commodity Education Program (MCEP).

Lobos eye playoff spot after holding off Borger

The Levelland Lobos helped increase their playoff chances with a 14-7 win on the road against the Borger Bulldogs Friday.

Hockley County Commissioners’ Court approves housekeeping items

The Hockley County Commissioners’ Court approved the next step of a traffic camera project at the Hockley County Sheriff’s Office during their regular meeting on Monday.

State sales tax revenues announced

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced that state sales tax revenue totaled $4.01 billion in October, 5.4 percent more than in October 2023.The majority of October sales tax revenue is based on sales made in September and remitted to the agency in October.

City of Sundown implements new utility rates, November 1

New utility rates went into effect for the City of Sundown as of November 1.The old water rate included 2,000 gallons with a minimum charge of $25.55. The new rate will not include that minimum.There will be an active charge of $25.55 and bills for all water usage.

Hockley Commissioners set regular meeting Mon.

The Hockley County Commissioners’ Court will be holding a regular meeting Monday, November 4, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Hockley County Courthouse.
