Voter registration deadline Oct. 7

Monday, October 7, 2024, is the deadline to register to vote for the November 5, 2024 General Election.Hockley County residents who are not currently registered to vote and wish to vote in any of the elections must file their paper work in the in the Hockley County Elections Office by 5 p.m.

SPC enrollment increases for fall 2024

South Plains College’s total enrollment in Fall 2024 increased by 2.6 percent from last fall.On a daily comparison, Fall 2024 enrollment is at 9,098, while Fall 2023 enrollment reached 8,870.The number of dual credit students enrolled at SPC also increased from last fall.

Local September sales tax allocations

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar has distributed $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for September, which is a 6.3% increase from September 2023’s total allocations.The distribution was outlined in a Sep. 11 press release from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.Cities received $730.
