12/11/2023 - DISPATCHED 1:31 A.M. - CLEARED 1:58 A.M. HOCKLEYCOUNTY LFD personnel were dispatched to a small grass fire on the east side of the road just past the Broken Spur Event Center. Units located the near the intersection of Highway 385 and Delaware Road.

South Plains College honored employees who are retiring in the fall 2023 semester Dec.14. The retirees have played a vital role in the success of the college as well as the thousands of students who pass through its doors annually.

I have found that the holiday season is a choatic time for us at the News-Press with the amount of events and coverage that needs to be done, but I couldn’t wish it to be any other way. Our community has so much going on at any given time throughout the holiday season.

LISD holiday schedule

Levelland ISD is reminding parents and families of early dismissal times for the holiday break beginning December 21. Academic Beginning Center will be releasing students at 12 p.m. along with Capitol and South Elementary. LMS and LHS will be releasing students at 12:30 p.m.

New county voter registration cards

In accordance with State Law, the Hockley County Election Office has begun mailing out new voter registration cards. The new cards are expected to be arriving in mailboxes over the next few weeks. The new cards will be yellow, and individuals may discard any old cards.

USDA begins issuing Pandemic Assistance Program payments

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that it will begin issuing more than $223 million in Pandemic Assistance Revenue Program (PARP) payments. These payments help producers who suffered a decrease in allowable gross revenue due to the COVID19 pandemic for the 2020 calendar year.
