Tax season sees new laws in place for 2026

Tax season is nearing and there have been some changes for those filing their 2025 taxes.The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) was signed into law on July 4, 2025. The bill extended some tax provisions and made others permanent. It also introduced some new laws, with others remaining the same.

Mutual aid, grants critical for fire departments

The Hockley County area has the benefit of sharing fire department resources through mutual aid (MAA) and interlocal (ILAs) when emergencies strike that a single fire department may need assistance with fighting fires or other emergencies.

Commissioners appoint new County Attorney

The Hockley County Commissioners Court approved the appointment of Nicole Griffin as county attorney at the meeting on Monday.Griffin will be taking the reins of county attorney the resignation of Anna Hord following her appointment to the 286th District Court by Gov. Greg Abbott.

Commissioners Court set for Jan. 5

The Hockley County Commissioners Court will be held on Jan. 5 at 9 a.m. at the courthouse.Commissioners are expected to approve monthly bills and claims dated through Jan. 5.

City council regular meeting set for Jan. 5

The Levelland city council will be holding its regular meeting on Jan. 5 at city hall.The council is expected to take action on Resolution No. 2026-01 to establish procedure for the May 2 city uniform general election.

Fire Department Report

Dec. 17Fire Department dispatched to College and 3rd St. for multiple accident report. Upon arrival there were two disabled vehicle in roadway and parking lot. Secured area and assisted with traffic control until wreckers removed both vehicles and debris.
