To the editor:As our community heads into the holidays, the American Red Cross Panhandle Plains Chapter is urging families to take simple steps to prevent home fires — the most common disaster we respond to each year. December brings more cooking, heating and candles, which means a higher risk.

Mexico releases water to Texas following agreement

The United States and Mexico have reached an agreement following a longstanding water dispute, with Mexico agreeing to release 202,000 acre-free of water.In 1944, the U.S. and Mexico formed a treaty in which the U.S. agreed to deliver 1.5 million acre-feet of water per year via the Colorado River.
