I’d like to encourage the Levelland community to be mindful of their animals during these next few weeks as the animal shelter has closed their doors to handle a distemper case.
The shelter staff have been working hard to make up for lost time since the horrific incident that resulted in the loss of two amazing public servants in those roles. While they have been working hard, I would like people to understand that the animal shelter is not at fault for the large number of animals wondering the streets of Levelland. It is the inadequate owners who do not fully understand the responsibility of owning an animal.
The shelter in Levelland is only so big and is a lot smaller than other shelters for cities comparable to the size of Levelland. Animal owners need to understand that their pets need to be put up and it is not the city’s job to be a hotel for our furry friends.
I hear more comments focused toward the staff of the animal shelter when it should be directed at irresponsible animal owners. Please prioritize our furry friends safety and treat them with kindness and love.
