GFWGFWC Texas Las Fidelis Study Club met in the home of Georgia Decker for their meeting held February 11.
Tables were decorated with a Valentine Theme with red hearts, cupids and other red décor.
Each member brought a dish they enjoyed during the leaner times of their life or during the time when they were younger and family prepared a certain dish to celebrate different occasions.
Mrs. Decker blessed the food and asked prayers for strength for members having a difficult time.
Members shared their smorgasbord of tasty dishes.
Members present were Tina O’Connor-Orange Biscuits, Diane Bridges-Tea Biscuits, Jolene Sweeney- Texas Sheet Cake, Betsy Moreland- Goulash, Sandra Stephenson-Graham crackers with Cream icing, Brenda Grimes-Potato Soup, Maggie Husen-Goulash, Suzanne Leggitt- Pork & Beans, Fredda Schooler- Roast Beef and Gravy, Georgia Decker-Beans & Corn Bread and Paula Dunn.
Each member shared a story of how the dish was prepared or used during lean times or special occasions.
Mrs. Schooler and Mrs. Decker were hostess for the meeting providing tea, water, and a small bag of assorted candies with a Valentine heart on each bag for each member.
A buThe business meeting was conducted by Sandra Stephenson, President. Collect was lead by Joleen Sweeney, minutes of previous meeting were read by Suzanne Leggit, and Betsy Moreland gave the Treasurer’s report.
The next meeting will be at Silverado Apparel and Home, Levelland.
Club members also met in the Science Building of South Plains College for a tour of the newly expanded facility, January 14.
Kristin Bingham, Chairperson of the Biology Department and Associate Professor of Biology was the tour guide for the members.
The group walked through the newly designed building in each of the different areas of study. The Curriculum can be presented in person, through zoom, or by online study. The new building had study cubicles for individual or group study. Bingham was knowledgeable of the different aspects of the building giving information about future additions if the department expands in the future.
The group spent some time in the outdoor classroom along with the garden with various plants and trees that student helpers tend to during the year.
The tour was very educational and displayed how technology is improving the classroom experience.
After the tour, members walked across the street to the Cotton Room at the Student Center of SPC and enjoyed refreshments along with a quick business meeting.
Hostesses for the meeting were Tina O’Connor and Kaye Brown. The tables were decorated with pottery planters that had individual faces painted on them wearing glasses.
These were for each member to take home and plant a plant from the knowledge they gained during the meeting.
Refreshments consisted of Chicken Salad Sandwiches, assorted fruit tray, with Banana Nut Cake along with tea and water. Chairperson Sandra Stephenson called meeting to order.
Members said the Club Collect led by Suzanne Leggitt. Minutes from the previous meeting were read and treasurer’ report was given by Betsy Moreland.
Members present were Diane Bridges, Georgia Decker, Paula Dunn, Maggie Husen, Betsy Moreland, Tina O’Connor, Fredda Schooler, Sandra Stephenson, Jolene Sweeny, Brenda Grimes and Suzanne Leggitt. Jim Leggitt, husband to Suzanne attended the meeting as a guest. Mrs. Stephenson adjourned the meeting.
