Lobo baseball hosted the Liberty Patriots in a district matchup Tuesday that went nine innings resulting in a Lobo loss, 11-10.
The Patriots secured an early lead in the top of the second inning scoring seven runs. The inning would consist of Liberty scoring the seven runs on five singles, two walks, and two Levelland errors.
The Lobo bats would respond in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs on two singles, two hit batters, two Patriot errors and one walk.
Liberty would lead after two innings, 7-4.
The Patriots offense would add two more in the third to extend the lead to 9-4. However, Levelland would continue to fight at the plate, scoring another four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The four runs were courtesy of three singles, two walks, and one error.
Levelland would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, 9-9, by scoring an additional run.
The game would extend into the ninth as the Patriots would score two runs in the top of the inning. The Lobos would score just one run in response and would fall to Liberty, 11-10.
Levelland would score 10 runs on 10 hits and commit five errors, while Liberty would score 11 runs on 14 hits and commit nine errors.
Boston Winfield began the game on the mound for Levelland, throwing one and a third of an inning. Winfield allowed seven runs, three earned on six hits and one walk.
Kain Rice would then throw five and a third in relief for the Lobos. Rice would allow two runs, one earned on five hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Ian Rivera would take the loss for Levelland, throwing the final two and a third. Rivera allowed two runs, one earned on three hits.
The Lobos fall to 14-12 on the season and an even 4-4 in district play. Following Tuesday’s loss, Levelland is tied with Estacado for third place with both teams sitting at 4-4. Liberty would remain in first place with a district record of 7-1. Snyder remains in fifth place at 35 and Big Spring sits in sixth place at 1-7.
Friday games included Liberty at Estacado, Lakeview at Snyder and Levelland at Big Spring.
Upcoming match ups for Tuesday include Levelland hosting Snyder, Liberty hosting Big Spring and Lakeview hosting Estacado.
