The Ropes Lady Eagles soared in their Tuesday night doubleheader, winning 2-1 against Vega and 2-0 against Littlefield.
Their set scores in the wins were 25-21, 20-25 and 25-18 against Vega, and 25-20 and 25-21 against Littlefield.
Head coach Jon Montanez noted that the win against Vega meant a little extra to his girls given the fact that they’re the team that beat them out in bi-district last season.
And you could certainly tell on the stat sheet as six players put up crazy numbers against Vega.
Allye Bandy had eight kills, 13 digs and 14 assists, Braedyn Reyna had 16 digs and two assists, Addi Crunk had 14 assists, Brylee Lauderdale had eight kills and two blocks, Addie Mae Falls had six kills and five digs and Vivian Gallegos had three aces and eight digs.
After they exacted their revenge with those huge performances, they carried that momentum into the next game for the sweep.
The stat sheet wasn’t as full against Littlefield due to the Lady Eagles sweeping them, but there was a lot of repeat key contributors.
Allye Bandy had three kills, four digs and seven assists, Braedyn Reyna had five aces, five digs and two assists, Brylee Lauderdale had three kills and two blocks and Addie Mae Falls had four kills.
Coach Montanez applauded Allye Bandy and Addie Mae Falls for their standout play on Tuesday night, which you could see on the stat sheet, but he also gave recognition to Annabelle Falls.
You may have not seen her contributions statistically, but Montanez noted that she made crucial plays down the stretch to help the team.
Kudos to all those individual standouts, but also the team as a whole for their attitude on Tuesday.
Every single player constantly filled the gym with positive energy and encouragement, whether it was on the court or from the bench.
So much so, that you could barely hear yourself think, which is something Coach Montanez is proud of.
The words of encouragement and uplifting energy is what he’s been preaching to his girls, and they followed through big time on Tuesday.
That infectious team attitude is what’s played a major role in their recent success as the Lady Eagles are on a heater right now.
They beat some powerhouse 2A schools in the Fillie Festival Tournament last week and even in their losses to elite teams, they played competitive.
And even before heading into that tournament, they pulled off a double-sweep in their doubleheader last Tuesday.
Now, following their most recent wins the Lady Eagles are 17-7 on the season and as district play approaches they’re shaping up to be the favorites, but there’s still a lot of games to play.
This weekend they play in another doubleheader against Aspermont and Abilene Christian in Aspermont and then head back on the road again on Tuesday.
Tuesday night they play a full game against Knox City at 6:00pm and then on Saturday they’ll return home against Lamesa at 12:00pm.
