A young traveler walked a dusty road, weary and hungry. Along the way, he saw a stall with flashing lights and endless trays of food. The sign read, “All You Can Eat. All the Time.”
It seemed perfect. He stepped inside and filled his plate again and again. At first, the food tasted good. But the more he ate, the emptier he felt. His stomach was full, but his soul was starving. The place was loud, crowded, and restless. People kept eating, but no one looked satisfied.
Just as he was about to leave, an older man approached him and whispered, “There’s a different table. Follow me.”
The traveler hesitated, but something in the man’s eyes gave him courage. He followed.
Down a quieter path, they came to a long wooden table set beneath a tree. It was simple but beautiful, covered with bread, fruit, and living water that sparkled like glass. A chair was pulled out, waiting.
“This is the King’s feast,” the man said. “It costs you nothing, but it will give you everything.”
The traveler sat. With the first bite of bread, his hunger eased in a way he had never known. With the first sip of water, his thirst was gone. Peace washed over him, filling places that food and noise never reached. He realized this was what he had been longing for all along.
The other table had promised more but gave him less. This table gave him enough, and it was more than enough.
When Jesus said, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35), He wasn’t offering us a snack. He was offering Himself - abundant, eternal, and wholly satisfying. Too often, we binge on what never fills us: endless scrolling, shallow approval, quick fixes, or temporary pleasures. Yet Christ calls us to a better table.
The Feast is more than food. It is fellowship with God. It’s peace that steadies us in chaos, joy that doesn’t evaporate when circumstances change, and wisdom that guides us when the way ahead looks uncertain.
So, the next time you feel the pull to binge on emptiness, remember there’s another invitation on the table. Come hungry. Sit down. Eat deeply. This is the feast your soul has been waiting for.
Prayer: Lord, You are the only feast that truly satisfies. Forgive me for the times I fill my life with empty things instead of Your presence. Teach me to hunger for You. Draw me to Your table, where peace and joy overflow, and remind me that in You, I will never go hungry again. Amen.
“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35)
