Whiteface CISD resurfacing its track

After 13 years with their old track surface, Whiteface CISD is laying down a new track in what is a three-phase project.

The original foundation was adequate enough to be reused, so the project is just resurfacing the track, meaning it will remain six lanes wide.

Whiteface Superintendent Joshua Damron noted that the project will be done well before track season, but it will be another month until it’s fully completed.

“We started the project about two weeks ago,” Damron said. “The first phase will be through by the end of the week and maybe as early as Saturday [September 20]. Then they’ll come back and paint the track gray and that will be two weeks from whenever the first phase is done. Then in the third phase they’ll come back and stripe it, which will be another two weeks.”

The school’s goal is for phase one, which is laying the track surface, to be completed by homecoming, but the painting in phases two and three will happen after.

The track should be fully completed by mid-October, finally eliminating a major need that the school has been facing for quite a while.

“Well, we’ve really had our eye on a new track for three years,” Damron said. “In fact, this last year we didn’t host a track meet because of the conditions of our track. And the year before we only had four or five teams attend our track meet because of the condition.”

That will no longer be the case with the new surface as the Antelopes are set to host a high school and middle school invitational this upcoming spring.

Damron also noted that once the team moves back down to 1A they hope to host future district track meets.

Stay on the lookout for the final product of the resurfaced track, which Whiteface eagerly awaits to use.
